Our preschool is based on a variety of methods, from Montessori to Reggio Emilia. We believe that a solid marriage of both emergent, child-centered curricula and theme-based, teacher-led creates an ideal environment for positive outcomes. The children are encouraged to explore and create on their own, and then are given the opportunity to create in a more defined manner. |
| |
| Our mission is to: |
| - give young children a practical arena to learn social skills; |
| - expand their imaginations through interactive stories; |
| - learn colors, shapes, letters, and numbers in English, Spanish, and French; |
| - learn practical interactive vocabulary and communication skills; |
| - learn to sit together for snack time; |
| - give them free time to play and move; |
| - and allow directed time for music and rhythm; and, |
| - to teach kindergarten skills for our 4s/5s class. |

Theoretical Approach |
Our approach to early childhood learning is based on several major child development theories, including Erik Erikson’s (1902 – 1994) psycho-social theory, which emphasizes that development occurs throughout the life span in a series of stages; Jean Piaget’s (1896 – 1980) cognitive-developmental theory, which focuses on how children’s thinking, reasoning, and perception differ from those of adults; the constructivist approach posed by Lev Vygotsky’s (1896 – 1934), particularly his “zone of proximal development,” which posits that the life-long process of cognitive development is dependent on the interactive process of social learning; the cultural context theory of Uri Bronfenbrenner (1917 – ), which emphasizes the interrelated impact of social and cultural influences on development (such as the family, educational setting, community, and broader society); and Abraham Maslow’s (1908 – 1970) hierarchy of needs, which theorizes that when basic needs are met, humans can fulfill higher growth needs and be satisfied.
Although our methods and approaches draw on several different popular models, such as the Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Waldorf, our philosophy and approach centers mainly on the emerging child because children play an active role in shaping their own development through the various experiences they have.
We welcome you and invite you to select an environment that offers a stimulating social and cognitive program through preschool. |
